Mindfulness in Everyday Life

How Can You Use Mindfulness Codes to Cultivate Mindfulness?

June 23, 2026

Have you ever felt like your thoughts were out of control? One day you are focused on your goals and the next you find yourself snapping at someone for no reason. In our busy lives, staying grounded can seem impossible. But mindfulness can help, and it’s all about understanding our minds and bodies.

In this guide we will introduce the B1-B2-B3 Mindfulness Codes. This simple tool can help you manage your emotions, calm your thoughts, and support your nervous system.

Understanding Your Inner Voices

Before we can change our thoughts we have to realize how we think. Our brain typically have three different “voices”:

1. The Voice of Intent (the self): This is your voice which is your goals and decisions. “I want to focus on this project,” it says.

2. The Voice of Resistance (The Impulse): This voice is for comfort and easy options. It could say, “This is too hard; let’s check social media instead.”

3. The Voice of Mindfulness (The Guide): This voice is calm and rational. It reminds you of your values and helps you stay safe and resilient.

The mind’s learning process doesn’t have to focus on silencing the Voice of Resistance; it just has to listen to the Voice of Mindfulness.

What is the B1-B2-B3 Breathing Method?

Your breath can guide you through hard times. How can you use the three-stage B1-B2-B3 approach:

B1: Activation Breath (Short & Sharp)

How to do it: Breathe fast and sharp breaths in and out of your nose like a sigh of relief.

When to do it: Take this when you are overwhelmed or on “autopilot.”

Why it works: It brings you back to life and brings you back to the present moment.

B2: Relaxation Breath (Deep & Long)

How to do it: Take long, slow breaths in and out, focusing only on the feeling of air in your nostrils.

When to use it: Use it in high-stakes meetings, when you’re angry, in tough discussions (on the phone, in the office, in a fight, even in your head).

Why it works: The nervous system settles down and you can think clearly.

B3: Natural Breath (our common breathing)

How to do it: Allow your body to breathe naturally, just as when you’re sleeping. Sit back and relax.

When to use it: Use this for quiet reflection or mindfulness meditation when you want to restore peace.

Why it works: This teaches your brain to be aware without struggle and allows you to be present.

Using Mindfulness in Daily Life

The most effective mindfulness is to use it when you can in everyday life. We’ve already covered how to apply B1-B2-B3 to daily life challenges.

1. De-escalating Tension at Work or Home: When someone is negative, your instinct is to match their energy. So try this:

  1. “Pause and breathe”: Take a deep breath (B1/B2).

  2. Reframe your thinking: Their frustration is not about you. Respond calmly (B3). You may be surprised at how that can alter the interaction.

2. Increasing the attention of your breath as you write or eat: Take 10% of your attention to your breath; it’s a way to stay present and not get lost in thoughts about the past or future.

Daily Mental Fitness Checklist

To fortify mental toughness, do a quick mental checklist:

- Feeling distracted? Use B1 to refocus.

- Need to calm down? Use B2 to calm your nerves.

- Looking for clarity? Use B3 to relax and observe.

By practicing these steps for just a few minutes each day, you can shift from reacting to your impulses to being in charge of your life. And remember, it’s all about small, mindful actions to feel better and more in control.
